Let’s go back to the beginning and take a look at how this family business, which has been operating more than four decades, has progressed into the 21 st century to offer a full turn-key solution working on projects from original concept to final completion. Dovetail designer Chris Jardine explains: “We make everything ourselves and we oversee every project personally. We have a team of in-house contractors who undertake associated building works from knocking walls down to laying new floors.” Chris is the first point of contact for new customers – give him a call and he will arrange an informal consultation at the showroom. “We are very fastidious and very precise. We are also very specific in taking whatever the client wants to achieve and seeing it through to fruition,” adds Chris, who uses traditional free-hand techniques, to render scaled-down drawings and plans enabling clients to visualise their space: “We don’t use computer aided design (CAD). We have found that clients like to have a physical piece of paper. It’s rare these days, but we have stuck to it as it works so well – clients love it, it’s easy to look at and it does have a romantic notion to it.” Once the hand-drawn plans are finalised, Chris passes them to brother-in-law Russell Ingham, who then takes over the project creating detailed, high-spec technical drawings that go to Dovetail’s workshop in Keighley where skilled craftsmen hand-build the hardwood cabinetry While Dovetail was founded in the 1980’s, fast forward to 2022 and the team today continues to offer the best in traditional woodworking techniques, but it has also moved with the times offering the ultimate in 21 st century technology from the likes of SubZero & Wolf, Quooker, Fisher & Paykel from New Zealand and Italian-manufactured Ilve, which is based just outside Venice. The appliances are meticulously crafted and expertly engineered, bringing professional quality to the home.​ “They are found in the world’s finest kitchens enhancing people’s lives from morning to night. “Ilve, the Italian brand are, in my opinion a great brand – their back story is an interesting one while Fisher & Paykel, who have been designing since the 1930s are a wonderful product, exceptionally precise and really beautiful.” The Quooker boiling water tap, the current kitchen ‘must-have’ can also be found at Dovetail, which prides itself on creating classic English kitchens, but with all the latest technology that embodies pure luxury.
